KRG Prime Minister Meets UK’s Foreign Secretary in Davos
On Thursday, January 18, 2024, Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), held a meeting with Lord David Cameron, the United Kingdom’s (UK) Foreign Secretary, at the World Economic Forum in Davos.
Their discussions primarily focused on the recent attack on Erbil by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, which occurred on January 15. Expressing his deep condolences, Lord Cameron condemned the attack, labeling it as unwarranted, a flagrant violation of Iraq’s sovereignty, and utterly deplorable.
Both Prime Minister Barzani and Lord Cameron agreed on the urgent need to enhance their collaboration, particularly in the fight against the so-called Islamic State terrorist group and broader counter-terrorism efforts.
Further, they explored ways to strengthen UK-Kurdistan ties, emphasising greater cooperation in areas of shared interest.
Additionally, they acknowledged the importance of addressing the ongoing issues between the Kurdistan Region and the Iraqi government, advocating for solutions rooted in the Iraqi constitution to ensure that the rights and financial entitlements of the Kurdistan Region are safeguarded.
