KRG Prime Minister and Turkish Defence Minister Discuss Bilateral Relations and Regional Stability
On 7 February 2024, Kurdistan Regional Government Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with Türkiye’s Minister of National Defence, Yaşar Güler, to discuss the current situation in Iraq and the advancement of bilateral relations.
The meeting emphasised the importance of continued coordination and cooperation to ensure security and stability of the Kurdistan Region, Iraq, and the broader region.
Minister Güler expressed deep condolences for the victims of the 15 January missile attack on Erbil, carried out by the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, and condemned the attack as unjustifiable.
Prime Minister Barzani reaffirmed the Kurdistan Region’s commitment to improving bilateral relations, anchored in the principles of good neighbourliness and mutual interests. He stressed the region’s dedication to ensuring security and stability and to preventing any threats to neighbouring countries.
Additionally, the importance of implementing the Sinjar agreement was discussed, with a focus on normalising the situation in Sinjar and ensuring the safe return of displaced persons to their homes.
