PM Barzani meets with U.S. Ambassador on KRG budget and elections
Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani met with the U.S. Ambassador to Iraq, Alina Romanowski, today. They discussed the need to respect the Kurdistan Region as a federal entity and the provision of the Kurdistan Region’s financial entitlements through the KRG, as well as progress in the MyAccount project.
Prime Minister Masrour Barzani reiterated that the Kurdistan Region has met all its constitutional duties, therefore its constitutionally defined rights must no longer be violated.
Ambassador Romanowski expressed her support to resolving disputes between the Kurdistan Region and the federal government through dialogue and based on the constitution of Iraq.
The need to hold the Kurdistan Region parliamentary elections was also highlighted. Prime Minister Masrour Barzani stressed that KRG has been calling for elections for two years, in a process that is lawful, legitimate, and constitutional to ensure fair, transparent, and impartial elections. Both sides agreed on the need to address challenges and barriers to the election process.
