KRG Prime Minister Discusses Kurdistan Elections with British Ambassador
On Tuesday, 30 April 2024, Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), held a meeting with Steven Hitchen, the British Ambassador to Iraq.
The discussions primarily centred on the importance of conducting parliamentary elections in the Kurdistan Region. Both parties recognised the need to address challenges and obstacles that could impede the elections, ensuring inclusive participation in the electoral process.
Prime Minister Barzani expressed his strong support for holding elections that are clean, fair, legitimate, just, and credible, under the international community’s supervision. He emphasised the importance of an electoral process that safeguards the rights of the region’s diverse ethnic and religious groups.
Additionally, they discussed the constitutional rights of the people of the Kurdistan Region, including the distribution of public sector salaries, the region’s financial entitlements, and ongoing support for the Peshmerga forces.
