Prime Minister Masrour Barzani Receives CBI Governor

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Prime Minister Masrour Barzani today received the Governor of the Central Bank of Iraq, Mr. Ali Mohsen Al-Alaq.

During the meeting, Prime Minister Barzani reaffirmed his vision for banking reform in the Kurdistan Region, in particular the KRG’s financial initiative, MyAccount. To date, more than half a million public sector beneficiaries have been onboarded, with 200,000 people expected to be paid digitally next month.

Prime Minister Barzani and Governor Al-Alaq welcomed the progress and stressed the importance of CBI’s continued support and oversight.

Prime Minister Barzani thanked Governor Al-Alaq for his personal support of the MyAccount initiative and the KRG’s broader banking reforms. He also noted the growing interest from both local and international financial institutions in supporting the KRG’s strategy.

The two sides discussed other payment initiatives aimed at accelerating financial inclusion in the Kurdistan Region as part of the CBI’s strategic objectives, including the gradual shift toward digital banking.

They agreed to remain in close contact in this regard.
