Statement by PM Masrour Barzani on the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women
Erbil, Kurdistan Region (GOV.KRD) – On the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women and the commencement of the 16-day campaign to combat violence against women, I reaffirm the Kurdistan Regional Government’s (KRG) commitment to confronting and preventing any form of violence or discrimination targeting women.
The Ninth Cabinet has made it one of its priorities to pave the path for women in Kurdistan to play an active and crucial role in various governmental positions in the Kurdistan Region. We also emphasize our utmost respect for human rights, women’s rights, and the prevention of gender discrimination in the Region.
Women in Kurdistan have made significant accomplishments in recent years, but unfortunately barriers remain and violence persists. We are committed to cooperating with all parties and components of society to end all forms of violence and gender discrimination in order to transform the Kurdistan Region into an example where women’s rights and human rights are protected.
