KRG Prime Minister Holds Talks with U.S. National Security Advisor at the White House

On 29 February 2024, Masrour Barzani, Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG), engaged in discussions with Jake Sullivan, the U.S. National Security Advisor, at the White House in Washington, D.C.

Accompanied by Brett McGurk, Deputy Assistant to the President & Coordinator for Middle East and North Africa, and Amos Hochstein, Deputy Assistant to the President and Senior Advisor for Energy and Investment, their meeting addressed pivotal issues ranging from recent developments in Iraq to bilateral relations between the United States and the Kurdistan Region.

The agenda encompassed key areas of cooperation, including security, stability, energy, investment, and the resumption of oil exports from the Kurdistan Region. Both sides stressed the imperative of maintaining security and stability in the Kurdistan Region while upholding its constitutional and federal status, alongside safeguarding the rights of all ethnic and religious communities in Iraq.

The Prime Minister reiterated the importance of implementing the Iraqi constitution and establishing the Federal Council to preserve the federal status of the Kurdistan Region and protect the rights of diverse ethnic and religious groups from encroachment.

The meeting underscored the strategic partnership between the Kurdistan Region and the United States, highlighting collaborative efforts aimed at fostering stability, security, and prosperity not only in the Kurdistan Region but also in the broader Middle East.
