Council of Ministers discusses education accreditation

Erbil, Kurdistan Region, Iraq (GOV.KRD) – Council of Ministers on Wednesday held its weekly meeting chaired by Prime Minister Masrour Barzani and attended by his deputy Qubad Talabani.

Opening the meeting, Prime Minister Barzani briefed the Council on his recent visit to the UK and meetings with British officials.

Prime Minister Barzani reported that both sides have expressed a desire to increase cooperation and strengthen bilateral ties between the Kurdistan Region and the UK. The Council tasked relevant Ministries with working towards increased cooperation in line with the topics discussed.

Thereafter, the Council was briefed on the draft of the Kurdistan Accrediting Association for Education (KAAE). The Council decided to review the draft ahead of a vote during their next meeting.

The next portion of the meeting was dedicated to discussing the state of electricity in the Region, with a focus on increasing supply ahead of the summer. The Council tasked the Ministries of Natural Resources, Planning, Finance and Economy, and Agriculture and Water Resources with collaborating with the Electricity Ministry to address these challenges.

Finally, the Council agreed to declare next week, from May 1 to May 5, an official holiday in all KRG’s institutions on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
