KRG Prime Minister Expresses Gratitude to Teachers for their Dedication

On Wednesday, October 25, 2023, Prime Minister Masrour Barzani of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) inaugurated Majidi School and Nursery in Hewa City, Erbil.

In his speech, the KRG Prime Minister expressed his heartfelt appreciation for the realisation of this project and underlined the government’s unwavering commitment to the continued growth and enhancement of our educational institutions.

Here is the transcript of Prime Minister Barzani’s speech:

“In the Name of God, Most Gracious, Most Merciful,

“It is with immense pleasure that I stand here today to inaugurate this school, harbouring the hope that similar initiatives will blossom throughout the Kurdistan Region. I extend my profound gratitude to Mr. Ahmad Majidi for his tireless efforts in bringing to life this modern educational facility, one that incorporates cutting-edge technologies, aesthetically pleasing classrooms, and a nurturing environment that caters to the needs of our students.

“My sincere thanks also go out to our dedicated teachers who have consistently demonstrated their unwavering commitment to shaping the future lives of our young learners. I firmly believe that schools should be places of comfort and safety where students can not only acquire academic knowledge but also essential life skills. It is incumbent upon the government to establish environments conducive to learning and well-organised schools that truly enrich the lives of our pupils.

“While acknowledging the shortcomings of the KRG, it is imperative to recognise the ongoing endeavours of the government to address these issues by constructing new schools and revitalising existing ones. Nevertheless, we must strive to build even more schools throughout the Kurdistan Region.

“I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the Minister of Education, Dr. Alan Hama Saeed, and the diligent staff at the Ministry of Education, who have consistently discharged their duties with unwavering dedication.

“My appreciation also goes to the teachers who have persevered in their educational roles during challenging times when they were not receiving their salaries. I understand the difficulties they have faced, as their salary is their primary source of income. Nonetheless, they have demonstrated remarkable patience and resolve to continue their teaching duties. To each one of them, I extend my deepest thanks.

“For those teachers who, regrettably, had to cease teaching due to salary delays, I wish to convey my support and urge the prompt resolution of their financial concerns. It is crucial, however, that our criticisms are directed toward those responsible for these delays, as the KRG has earnestly strived to ensure teachers and other public sector employees receive their salaries on time.

“Sadly, certain other factions appear to have taken advantage of the situation, manipulating and encouraging teachers to withhold their services, ostensibly as a form of retaliation for salary cuts affecting students. Such actions are wholly inappropriate.

“The primary lesson a student learns from a teacher is perseverance. It is essential that we support one another and impart to our students the values of love, determination, and resilience. This way, our pupils will be equipped to face life’s challenges with pride and unwavering determination.

“I call upon all political groups to unite with us in advocating for the rights of our teachers and the people of the Kurdistan Region. Let us collectively demand our rightful entitlements from those responsible. The KRG is your government; it is an integral part of your lives and is dedicated to securing and providing all your financial rights.

“We will make amends for any salary shortfalls, but, as I have previously stated, we cannot compensate for the lost time and education our children have experienced due to school closures. I earnestly hope that our teachers return to their classrooms, resuming their indispensable role in shaping the future of our young learners.

“Once again, I extend my heartfelt gratitude and offer my congratulations on the inauguration of this splendid school. I wish you all success, and thank our dedicated teachers.”
